Buwan Performance Project

This is a month-long online performance showcase by Buwan Art Collective. It will run for a couple of months in the second half of 2020.

This  run of Buwan Performance Project consists of monthly series of interdisciplinary performances from varying young artists.  In regards to the collective name, ‘Buwan’ symbolizes time, energy, change and rhythm. Thus, the project hopes to unearth these energies in the works of young passionate artists.

Live from 27th June 2020 to 22nd July 2020

Buwan Performance Project consists of a monthly series of inter/multidisciplinary performances from varying young artists. In regards to the collective name, Buwan means month and moon in Filipino and it symbolizes time, energy, change, and rhythm.  This month's theme is Otherness, acknowledging the quality and fact of being different. This idea of otherness is central to the sociological analysis of how majority and minority identities are constructed. As the representation of various different groups within any given society is controlled by the groups that have greater political power.

Live from 31 July 2020 to 26 August 2020

This month's theme is Shift, a slight change in position, direction, or tendency; or a cause to move from one place/space to another. This is the second run of Buwan Performance Project featuring young artists with different backgrounds, not only from Fine Arts but with Art Teaching and Theatre as well. From insanity, movement, and dealing with isolation to the lasting and ever-changing connection and re-evaluation of one's identity within themselves and with their relationships. We are excited to show you these new young minds at work.

Live from 29 August 2020 to 23 September 2020

This time we are showcasing Fine Art Alumni from Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts: Charmaine Li, Choo Jen Quinn, Kim Hyesu, Huynh Hong Quyen, Thanchanog Ho Mai Chin, Ting Jing Yi. These young artists have responded to the theme of Tension in their own way, reflecting individual thoughts regarding pains and tensions from within, and perhaps, in each of us. These works walk along beautiful, poignant thin lines between living, dying, and suffering.

Mundanity

Live from 10 October 2020 to 7 November 2020

This month we present to you a collaboration with Headspaced an art and design collective that explores the different notions behind human relations and connection. The artists in Headspaced are Bel, Felicia Ting, Lee Yi Xuan, Nurul Amilia, and Ong Kong Liang. These five have looked within and at their lives and routines in the present to appreciate the beauty and art of the everyday. They are all trained in art and design in the same class which allows their skills and talents to merge and churn out a collective vision as well. These video art pieces give us a look into the mundane.

Catharsis

Live from 21 November 2020 to 19 December 2020
